Hell

- Elle est ici. Tu l'as trouvée. Impressionnant.
- Attends. Je savais que tu y arriverais. Tu es un compétiteur égocentrique.
- Qu'est-ce que tu sais de moi?
- Tu as appelé ton fils Albert. Qui est-ce?
- Mon premier chef à l'internat. Il était comme un père pour moi.
- Ses paroles étaient d'or.
Tu n'as aucune défense... contre Annie. Maintenant, tu as tes enfants. Ils ont besoin de toi. Trois minutes.

Case 18
Dr. N: You say that although things are not too clear, you are floating in bright light and someone is coming toward you?
S: Yes, I am kind of disoriented. I haven't gotten used to things around here yet.
Dr. N: That's fine, just take your time and let the figure float toward you as you float toward it.
S: (long pause, and then with a loud horrified exclamation) OH, GOD. NO!
Dr. N: (startled by this outcry) What's going on?
S: (subject's body begins to shake uncontrollably) OH . . . OH . . . LORD ALMIGHTY! IT'S THE DEVIL. I KNEW IT. I'VE GONE TO HELL!
Dr. N: (grasping subject by the shoulders) Now, take a deep breath and try to relax as we go through this together, (then, softly) You are not in hell…
S: (cuts in with a shrill tone of voice ) OH, YEAH - THEN WHY DO I SEE THE DEVIL RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME?
Dr. N: (my subject's face is now covered in sweat and I use a tissue to wipe some of it away while continuing to reassure) Try to calm yourself, there is some misinterpretation here and we will find it soon.
S: (paying no attention to me, the subject now begins to moan while rocking back and forth) Ohooo . . . it's over for me . . . I'm in hell…
Dr. N: ( I break in now more forcefully) Tell me exactly what you see.
S: (whispering at first and then loudly) A... being . . . demonic . . . reddish-green face . . . horns . . . wild-eyed . . . fangs . . . the facial skin is like charred wood . O SWEET JESUS, WHY ME OF ALL PEOPLE, WHO SPOKE SO MUCH IN YOUR NAME?
Dr. N: What else do you see?
S: (with loathing) WHAT ELSE IS THERE TO SEE?
UNDERSTAND? I'M IN FRONT OF THE DEVIL!
Dr. N: (quickly) I meant the rest of the body. Look below the head and tell me what you see.
S: (with a violent shudder) Nothing... just a wispy ghostlike body.
Dr. N: Stay with me. Doesn't this seem unusual to you - that the devil would appear with no body? Move forward in time rapidly now and tell me what this figure does.
S: (my subject's body jerks up violently and then with a great sigh of
relief he sags back into the chair) Oh... that bastard... I might have known... it's SCANLON. He is taking his mask off and smiling wickedly at me...
Dr. N: (now I can relax) Who is Scanlon?
S: My guide. This is his crude idea of a joke.
Dr. N: What does Scanlon really look like now?
S: Tall, aquiline features, gray hair... full of mischief-making, as usual, (laughs with bravado, but still not fully recovered) I should have known. He caught me unawares this time.
Dr. N: Does Scanlon make a habit of this sort of thing? Why frighten you just as you were coming into the spirit world a little disoriented?
S: (defensively) Listen, he is a great teacher. That's his way. He has got our whole group using masks but he knows 1 don't like them much.
Dr. N: Tell me why Scanlon used a devil's mask to scare you right after this life? Talk to him now.
Note : I am quiet for a few moments while my subject mentally connects with Scanlon.
S: (after a period of silence) I had it coming. Oh, I know it! I spent a lifetime preaching about the devil, scaring good people... telling them they were going to hell if they didn't pay attention to me. Scanlon gave me a dose of my own medicine.
Dr. N: And how do you feel now about his methods?
S: (chagrined) He made his point.
Dr. N: I want to ask you a blunt question. Did you really believe what you told your parishioners about seeing demonic forces everywhere, or were you motivated by something else?
S: (intensely) No, no - I believed what I was saying about evil being everywhere in every person. I was not a hypocrite.
Dr. N: Are you sure it wasn't false piety? You did not pretend to feel and be what you were not?
S: No ! I believed it. My undoing was my method of preaching and the love of the power over others that this ability gave me. Yes, I admit that failing... 1 made life miserable for some of my flock... not seeing the essential goodness in people. I was always suspicious because of my obsession with evil and this corrupted me.
Dr. N: Do you feel part of what you became was the result of the body you chose in this life?
S: (in a flat voice) Yes, I lacked restraint. I chose a body with a feisty mind and allowed myself to be swept away. I was too confrontational as a preacher.
Dr. N: And do you know why your soul mind chose to enter into this partnership in the body of a preacher who constantly intimidated people?
S: Oh, I... shit... I let it happen because it felt good to be in control... I was afraid of... not being taken seriously enough.
Dr. N: You were worried about the loss of control?
S: (long pause) Yes, that... I would be... inadequate.
Dr. N: By his use of a devil's mask, do you think Scanlon demeans what you stood for in the church?
S: No, that's my teacher's way. I chose the body of a minister and he helped me with all this. 1 took a wrong turn—it was not the wrong path. My faith was not a bad thing but I became misguided and I misguided others. Scanlon wants me to see what it feels like to scare people rather than reason with them. He wanted me to feel the same fear that I gave to others.
Note: I now move my subject into a group setting to learn more about how Scanlon teaches his students through the use of masks.
Dr. N: Who is the first person who comes to you?
S: (hesitates and is wary) It's... an angel... soft glowing white... wings... (then, with recognition) OKAY, I'M ON TO ALL OF YOU. ENOUGH!
Dr. N: Who is this angel?
S: My dear friend, Diane. She has removed her angel's mask and is laughing and hugging me.
Dr. N: I'm a little confused. Souls can assume any shape or create any features they want. Why bother with masks?
S: The mask is similar to a figure of speech, a symbol one can hold in the hand to put on and pull off for effect. Diane is offsetting Scanlon's huge joke by being a loving angel for me while the others are laughing at what happened to me.
Dr. N: What kind of individual is Diane?
S: Very loving and full of humor. She likes practical jokes, as does most of my group. They all know I take things too seriously. I don't like the masks very much so they tease me.
Dr. N: During your lessons, are masks used as a means of teaching about right and wrong behavior?
S: Yes, they are a means of acknowledgment of good or poor thinking, misconceptions... they identify aspects of our character which are positive and those which are undesirable and we can role play with each other.
Dr. N: Did Scanlon originate the use of this sort of prop for your group lessons?
S: (laughs) Yes, and what he does makes an impression.

Cas 18
S : Mon guide. Cette vulgaire blague est la sienne.
Dr. N : A quoi ressemble vraiment Scanlon maintenant ?

The promise - The marriage March

(Judy) Once I was happy to
Roam through the gold and blue
Now something haunts me
I know it's real
Someone returns
The desire I feel
(Angels) We could have passed him by

(Judy) Should have passed him by
So many others cry

(Angels) One more human cry

(Judy) So many others
Reaching for
A thread through the night
Or one lover more

He has a dream

(Angels) It's his dream

(Judy) I dream it too

(Angels) It's not your dream

(Judy) He dreams of the promise
We swore we would come through

(Angels) The promise is not yours alone to honor

(Judy) But we said we'd...

(Angels) This is not our part

(Judy) Open his heart

(Angels) Now it is open

(Judy) No, now it must start

(Michael) You promised me whatever was in my heart

(Angels) We promised him whatever was in his heart

(Michael) You swore that I could speak from the heart
(Angels) Yes, we said he'd speak from his heart

(Michael) Now I have chosen
And you must obey

(Judy) I will obey

(Michael) It's my heart that commands
And it must have its way
I want you
I need you
I can't live without you
Anymore

(Judy) Your heart commands me
And I will obey you
I need you
I can't live without you
Anymore

(Judy & Angels) We promised him whatever was
in his heart

(Michael) You promised me whatever was
in my heart

(Judy & Angels) We said that he could speak
from the heart

(Michael) You swore that I could speak
from the heart

(Judy) And now he has chosen
And now I must choose
Tho' garlands of planets
And starlight I lose

(Angels) Now you must choose
Starlight, starlight
You're gonna lose him

(Judy & Michael) I want you, I need you
I can't live without you

(Everyone) I want you, I need you
I can't live without you
Anymore

* * *

(Everyone) The whole work holds its breath again
The marriage ring it shines
The billionth trillionth walk begins
As another world sighs

Sights and best of wishes and
A silence you can hear
The vow that breaks the world are spoke
And the whole world sheds a tear

(Beggar) Out of the joy of your marriage feast
O brother be good to me
The way is long and the shrine is far
Where my weary feet would be
And feasting is always somewhat sad
To those outside the door
Still love is only a dream
And life itself is hardly more

(Everyone) The human company draws close
And lends an ear
The vows that break the world are spoke
As the whole world sheds a tear

The vows that break the world
And the whole world sheds a tear

East we go

Some Atlanteans came directly to Egypt. But others went first to what is now Spain or Portugal, particularly the Pyrenees region. This fact is mentioned in readings given ten years apart.
"In Atlantean land when there was knowledge that there soon was to be the destruction of that land and there were attempts of individuals to leave the land. Entity among those who went to Egypt." (708-1; Oct. 25, 1934)
"among Atlanteans who first came to Egypt, journeyed to what is now a portion of Portugal or the Pyrenees where some Atlanteans had set up temple activity, aided in decorations of temple." (1123-1; Feb. 19, 1936)
"in Atlantis when there was the breaking up of the land - among those that went to what is now the Spanish land; while many changed to the Egyptian land the entity remained in Pyrenees and established those tenets and truths that aided much until hordes from the African land brought destruction to those people." (3541-1; Jan. 10, 1944)

"in Atlantis at time of disputes when many sent to many lands (the entity) a mathematician, came to Pyrenees, journeyed through the air, later came to Egypt." (This reading mentions later that this person became famous as a builder of dams and buildings. 2677-1; Jan. 27, 1942)

Gay Not Goy
Uriel Yekutiel is Tel Aviv ‘s most fabulously outlandish nightlife personality. Equal parts Freddie Mercury, Boy George and Cyndi Lauper, Uriel is truly meyookhad. Perhaps best known in the US for starring in the stylish promotional videos on youtube for Tel Aviv gay party Arisa, Uriel can usually be seen cavorting on camera with the hirsute Israeli model Eliad Cohen, a man so hunky he looks like a Mossad agent working undercover as a Chippendale.

In one oddly romantic Arisa video, strolling with Eliad through a crowded airport in a Dick Tracy-yellow pea coat, high heels and a Dora the Explorer balloom, Uriel could convince any passerby that the perfect complement to a 70’s ‘stache is fabulous eye makeup. In another video, he even dares to appropriate the orthodox culture of the Hasid into his bubble of outrageousness. Decidedly modern, Yekutiel is the synthesis of practically every gay archetype of the past 50 years with a few Israeli twists thrown in for good measure. Gender roles haven’t been this playful since Dietrich put on tails.

What can we say….we love Uriel Yekutiel! It takes balls to pull of heels and facial hair!

By Matt Sigl

The Showt’s Editor in Chief Ty Kuppig recently had the pleasure of speaking to Yekutiel. Read further to see what had to say about being gay in Tel Aviv and his love of hummus!

Describe yourself in three words.
* Funny, sensitive and more quiet than people would think.

You’re quite popular in Tel Aviv nightlife…how did you get into the industry?
* It all really happened by mistake. The Arisa producers saw me fooling around on Youtube, and they asked me to take part in their promotional videos. With time, people started taking noticed, and I had the opportunity to do what I love…perform. It all kind of snowballed from there.

Describe your typical day.
* I wake up at like 3:00pm (nightlife guy), eat my fibers and fruits, and i start reading email and screen plays and scripts. It’s a very lazy day…meeting in cafes, talking artsy bullshit all day—I love it. When I have shows it really gets crazy. I run from the stylists to rehearsals with the dancer to shoots…it’s quite fun!

Tell us about Arisa. Is it Tel Aviv’s most popular gay party?
* Arisa is definitely one of the biggest parties in Tel Aviv and without a doubt the most famous one. Thanks to the videos on youtube we have a great deal of main-stream media that covers every time we make a promotion or a party.

How do you come up with the inspiration for each of the promotional Arisa videos on youtube? Who directs them?
* The videos are made by the two owners of Arisa - Omer Tobi, who directs them, and Yotam Papo, who produces them. It is all really a joint collaboration for us…we’re also best friends. The theme of each video gets decided when one of us throws out the craziest idea…when we think it’s too much, we’ve found it!

Which of the videos is your favorite?
* Most definitely the first one that made a real bang “Ma Asita Li”, where Eliad beats me. I think it’s short and the chicest, but most importantly, i’m much thinner there! 

Have you spent time in New York? How do you think the nightlife scene in Tel Aviv compares to that of New York?
* I haven’t been to New York, but I’ve heard that nightlife in Tel Aviv is some of the best in the world. Our parties usually ends at 7:00am. I’ve heard that in New York they shut down at like 4:00am? That’s crazy!

What is your favorite city in the world?
* Probably Edinburgh or London. I like really cold and quiet European cities. But hey, I haven’t been to NYC yet.

What is your experience like being gay in Israel?
* Tel Aviv is one of the best cities in the world to be gay in and the most accepting city I have been to.

You always look fabulous in the Arisa videos. What’s your secret?
* First of all - very minimal face make up. I hate it when drag queens cake on tons of foundation. I only use it where i need it, it gives my face a very fresh and approachable look which I like. I love to look like myself, even with make up on…and I have some good Afghan-Yemenite genes that don’t hurt.

What are three things you can’t live without?
* My iPhone, hummus, and hairspray.

What was your most outrageous fashion moment?
* When you are used to walking around the street in only high heels and underwear, very few things look outrageous to you.

Can you give any suggestions for great Israeli/middle-eastern dance music available in the US or via internet radio?
* Well you have the best website for middle eastern music (www.mizrahit.co.il) but it’s all in Hebrew. Maybe stick to our youtube channel, we upload a lot of songs!

We recently featured fellow-Israeli Meital Dohan . What do you think of her?
* First of all, she’s gorgeous. And she is a brilliant actress…I love her.

How did you end up being in TYP’s D.I.S.C.O video?
* Guy Sagi - the director, saw all the Arisa videos, and I guess he liked them. He just called me one day and asked me to come talk to them. I was honored. For the second TYP video “20 Seconds,” that just came out, I also did the choreography.

You and Israeli model Eliad Cohen are considered quite the gorgeous couple. How long have you been together? How did you meet?
* I’m sorry to let people done, but we are NOT really a couple, and have never been! We are good friends, buts that is it… it’s all acting. We are really not each other’s type—I like them thin, pretty and nerdy, so it would never work.

What is on the horizon for you? What is the next project you’d like to tackle?
* I would like to continue performing and acting. Right now we are performing in cities around the world (updates on my facebook page or twitter - UrielYekutiel). I will pursue acting more seriously…I can’t be in heels ALL day. I’m a very dramatic actor actually, next stop – Almodovar!

Ma vie en rose My life in pink

- Are you ill?
- No, I'm concentrating. Am I a boy or a girl?
- A boy, so we each keep our clothes. Look, it's easy at your age. The hassles come later. Like, they say I have to be home from Barbara's party by midnight. What will Yannick think?
- Who's he?
- Never mind. Don't tell anyone.
- So, boy or girl?
- Don't ask me! We learned in bioIogy what makes boys and girls. XY, you're a boy. XX, you're a girl. It's like playing poker. Get it?
- Doesn't God decide?
- Of course He does.

"Ludovic Fabre: girl"

- I know what happened to my X. Wise guy.

- Are you looking?
- Yeah.
- What do you see?
- Your feet.
- How do they look?
- Normal.
- Okay, now listen. See my feet? Like a girl's. That proves it.
- I can do that.
- That's not the point. First, you have to understand I'm a girlboy.
- Girlboy? Cut it out. Let go!
- Listen. To make a baby, parents pIay tic-tac-toe. Okay so far?
- Okay. Now, come on.
- When one wins, God sends Xs and Ys. XX for a girl, XY for a boy. My X for a girl fell in the trash. I got a Y instead. A scientitic error!
- Get a move on.
- But God'Il fix it. He'II send me my X, and we can get married, okay?

- Your costume's really nice.
- So's yours.
- Christine! We're waiting!
- Let's swap.
- I can't.
- Be a sport. lt's my birthday.
- No. I can't!
- Come on, guys. Help me!

- Christine? Kids? Cake time!
- Where's your dress?

- Ludovic, wait!
- It wasn't my fault.
- I warned you ! You're bent on ruining our lives! Give us a break! I've had enough! Give us a tucking break!
- Stop it! You'll kill him. Calm down !
- It's not his fault! He didn't do anything. I wanted his costume. We forced him.
- They only swapped costumes. Why are you so upset?

- Pam! Take me away with you!
- It's all right, Ludo.

- What are you doing?
- I won't ruin your life. I'm giving you a break!

- Darling? Hanna?
- Why did you climb up a billboard?

- Ludovic, did you really want to go with that doll?

- It's the shock. Everything's fine. Let's have a drink outside. It's time we had a housewarming.

- I'll take these off.
- Do whatever feels best.
- Whatever happens,you'll always be my child.
- Our child. I've tended to forget it lately... but not anymore.

Shine for tomorrow

Waking alone at sunrise, beyond the shores of my memories
Bidding farewell to a dream from a long time ago
Nursery rhymes and stories, a morning kiss from a loving heart
Making a wish as a star fails to glow

I look around – the sky is bright
I’m reaching out to touch the light
That shines for tomorrow

Shine for tomorrow, there is a life out there to live
Shine for tomorrow and you’ll believe
Shine for tomorrow, there’s music waiting to be played
Shine for tomorrow and for the love still to be made

Sailing alone at sunrise (Sailing alone at sunrise)
Upon the seas of my melodies
Finding my way through the music that flows in my mind
Gathering hopes and wishes (Hopes and wishes)
Like scattered shells over golden sands (Scattered shells)
Leaving the childhood I clung to behind

I look around – the sky is bright
I’m reaching out to touch the light
That shines for tomorrow

Shine for tomorrow, there is a life out there to live
Shine for tomorrow and you’ll believe
Shine for tomorrow, there’s music waiting to be played
Shine for tomorrow and for the love still to be made

Waking alone at sunrise, beyond the shores of my memories
Bidding farewell to a dream from a long time ago
Nursery rhymes and stories, a morning kiss from a loving heart
Making a wish as a star fails to glow

I look around – the sky is bright

That shines for tomorrow
(Shine for tomorrow)

Shine for tomorrow (There is a life out there to live)
There is a life out there to live (Out there to live)
Shine for tomorrow (and you believe)
And you believe

Shine for tomorrow (There’s music waiting to be played)
There’s music waiting to be played (To be played)
Shine for tomorrow (And for the love still to be made)
And for the love still to be made

Kiss me forever

Barbra 1955

En français

From the wise look for light
From the strong look for might
From the lost look for weeping
In the lonely night
From the dark look for song
From the hills shadows long
From the field gold and grain
From the cloud look for rain
With the rain look for thunder
Blinding lightening wild and frightening
Then at last look for rainbows
In the fresh new sky
To the land from the sea
Look for waves rolling free
And from now past forever
Look for love from me forever
Look for love from me

Barbra Streisand
Look
Bob Russell/Michel Legrand (1967)

On avait seize ans

Et la mer

---
The morning dew has saturated me
And before me lies a king's road
A harp and a crown have attached me to a Song of Degrees
Still my thoughts confound me
And a caress of a ray of sun
My train of thought has suddenly been cut off

I gaze - my horse is beautiful
He carries me on his back to the king's road

The king's road
Is the only road for me
The king's harp
Is my song

The king's road
Is a dream to me, is a riddle to me
The king's harp
My only love

A day that is born with dawn (A day that is born with dawn)
Like a cycle in nature
Comes and grows and suddenly dies silently
And in me is created (And in me is created)
A marvelous golden tune (A golden tune)
Then shall I carry a prayer to the universe

I gaze - my horse is beautiful
He carries me on his back to the king's road

The king's road
Is the only road for me
The king's harp
Is my song

The king's road
Is a dream to me, is a riddle to me
The king's harp
My only love

I gaze - my horse is beautiful
He carries me on his back to the king's road
(The king's road)

The king's road (Is the only road for me)
Is the only road for me (Is the road for me)
The king's harp (Is my song)

The king's road (Is a dream to me)
Is a dream to me, is a riddle to me (Is a riddle to me)

L'été n'aura qu'un jour

C'est vrai, je n'ai plus l'âge d'une enfant
Les jeux sont faits et maintenant
L'avenir c'est toi, encore insouciant
Des pires séismes des continents
La faim sans fin au sol africain
Disparaîtront les éléphants
Endors-toi, mon amour
Papillons, papillons
Les tsunamis défient les drapeaux
Aucun abri à ton berceau
Qu'adviendra-t-il de toi
Si je ne suis plus là
Quand les humains n'en seront plus ?
Les oiseaux migrateurs
Au bout de l'Equateur
Reviendront-ils se poser
Sur l'eau en douceur ?
Dans tes yeux purs
Le chaos d'un vol de papillons
Papillons, papillons

Can you spot a pattern ?

Wanderlust

I am leaving this harbour
* Je quitte ce port
Giving urban a farewell
* Donnant des adieux urbains
Its habitants seem too keen on god
* Ses habitants semblent trop portes sur Dieu
I cannot stomach their rights and wrong
I have lost my origin
* J'ai perdu mon origine
And i don't want to find it again
Rather sailing into nature's laws
And be held by ocean's paws
Wanderlust !
* L'Envie de voir le monde !
Relentlessly craving wanderlust
Peel off the layers
* Enlève les couches
Until you get to the core
Did i imagine it would be like this
Was it something like this i wished for
Or will i want more ?
* Ou voudrai-je plus ?
Lust for comfort
* La soif du confort
Suffocates the soul
* Suffoque l'âme
This relentless
* Cette implacable
Restlessness
* Agitation
Liberates me
* Me libère
Sets me free
* Me rend libre

* Je me sens à la maison chaque fois
I feel at home whenever
* Que l'inconnu m'entoure
The unknown surrounds me
* Je reçois son etreinte
I receive its embrace
* À bord de ma maison flottante
Aboard my floating house
* L'Envie de voir le monde !
Wanderlust !
Relentlessly craving wanderlust
* Enlève les couches
Peel off the layers
Until you get to the core
Did i imagine it would be like this
Was it something like this i wished for
* Ou voudrai-je plus ?
Or will i want more ?
* L'Envie de voir le monde !
Wanderlust !
* D'île en île
From island to island
* L'Envie de voir le monde !
Wanderlust !
* Uni dans le mouvement
United in movement
* Merveilleux !
Wonderful !
* Je l'aime avec toi
I enjoy it with you
* L'Envie de voir le monde !
Wanderlust !
* L'Envie de voir le monde !
Wanderlust !
* Pouvez-vous me montrer un modèle ?
Can you spot a pattern ?
* Implacable agitation
Relentlessly restless
* Agitation implacable
Restless relentlessly
* Agitation implacable
Restless relentlessly
* Pouvez vous me montrer un modele ?
Can you spot a pattern ?

Have you decided ?

If someone were to tell me that there exist among us authentic magicians, saints, bodhisattvas, or anyone endowed with miraculous powers, I would believe them.
- In a certain sense, what you say is true. But you've attained the freedom to accept or reject these new conditions to use them to finish your life's work, or not. Have you decided?
To use them for good or for evil.
Have you decided ?
